Online and Hybrid Classes

You can take JCC online classes from virtually anywhere, provided you have an Internet connection.  The most exciting thing is you can do the work at any time of the day – before work or after work, at noon or after midnight – whatever works best for you!  Choose from credit-bearing courses and non-credit workshops that can all be taken right from the comfort of your own home!

Get your degree online.  We offer eight degrees and three certificates completely online and one degree can be completed largely online.

*More than 50% of this degree can be completed with online courses offered at Jefferson. The remainder of the coursework may be completed through Open SUNY.

Academic Advising ([email protected](315) 786-2437) can help you get started with your degree and registered for your courses.

We have everything you need to get started  with your successful college experience!  The admissions office  and Enrollment Services Center staff are committed to help you along the way.  Send us a request for more information, call with questions (315-786-2437) or visit the campus.

Proctored Exams

Some of our online and hybrid classes require proctored exams.  A proctor is a person who supervises an exam to make sure the exam is secure and the right person is taking it.  Ask your instructor about online proctoring using Respondus®.  If your class requires a proctor, you should review your instructor’s requirements and the official proctor guidelines.

Are you Ready?

Like all college classes, online classes require skills such as time management, reading comprehension and the ability to work independently.    There are many ways to test your skills to see if you are ready for an online course.

  • Online Help, Surveys and Tips. There are a lot of surveys that check whether you have the skills to succeed in an online course.  Remember, these skills will help in all of your classes, work and in life!
  • Blackboard Orientation. We offer a free orientation to online classes where you can see what an online class looks like, test uploading assignments, taking a quiz, and adding to a discussion.
    • You may view the Orientation as a Guest (opens in a new window) or if you are already able to log in to Blackboard, go to:
    • Preview Week. Already registered for an online course?  Most online courses are available one week from the actual start of classes.  This is called Preview Week.  During Preview Week, you can:
      • Take a “tour” of the course to learn how to navigate its various sections
      • View the syllabus
      • Email the instructor with questions
    • Check your technology. Online classes require access to a computer with Internet. Check out the computer minimum requirements and test your computer with the Open SUNY Computer Checker.

Hybrid Classes

JCC also offers a number of convenient hybrid classes.  These courses combine classroom instruction with online learning so you still connect in person with your professor and classmates while enjoying the convenience of online classes.

Hybrid classes have many of the same functions as fully online classes, so you need many of the same skills to succeed.
