Apply for Aid

Paying for college can be challenging. At Jefferson, we believe that students and their families should receive the help they need to pay for college. Some or all of your tuition, housing and meals, and fees may be covered by financial aid. You may also receive additional aid to cover books, transportation, and other costs.

How we help

Our Enrollment Services team can help you navigate student loans, scholarships, grants, FAFSA, and other financial aid choices. Because the financial aid process can take several months, apply as soon as you can. You will need to apply for financial aid each school year. We can help you with the various applications and questions.

Types of aid

Financial aid isn't just loans - learn about all the types you may have available

Applying for Financial Aid

1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Jefferson’s code is 002870. You can submit your FAFSA anytime after October 1 for the upcoming academic year. It is important to file your FAFSA as early as possible! Funds are awarded on a first-come first-serve basis.

2. To submit the FAFSA, you will need an FSA ID. An FSA ID ― your username and password ―replaces the Federal Student Aid PIN and is now used as your electronic signature for all your federal aid documents. Create an FSA ID online.  You will need an FSA ID to electronically sign and submit your FAFSA, and to make any needed corrections later. If you are a dependent student, your parent will need his or her own FSA ID, too. This FSA ID is used to process all federal loans.

3. If you have lived in New York state longer than 1 year, complete the TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) application with school code 2220. Apply now for TAP. (There is a direct link at the end of your FAFSA application.)   NOTE: If you would like your aid to appear on your bill, please complete the FAFSA and TAP applications no later than June 1 if starting in the fall semester, or December 1 if starting in the spring semester.

4. Need a student loan? Student loans must be paid back—with interest. Before taking out a student loan, make sure you have applied for all scholarships and grants you are eligible to receive from the federal and state governments, JCC, and organizations in your community. Apply for Federal Student Loans by completing the Direct Student Loan Application and Instructions form.

5. Need part-time work to fill your funding gap? See the job opportunities online on our CannonLink job page. If you want to work on campus visit the Student Employment page.
